SPOKANE, Wash. - The Arizona soccer team fell in its final match of the non-conference season, dropping its contest against Gonzaga (7-1-1) in a 3-1 decision. Arizona enters conference play with a 3-2-3 record.
Cameron Valladares scored the Wildcats' lone goal in the game off a pass from Desiree Foster in the 76th minute. Foster dished it into the box where Valladares was waiting to send it to the left of Gonzaga keeper Lauren Towne into the net.
Gonzaga got out to an early lead in the first half when Giana Riley was able to get around the Arizona defense and send the ball past Hope Hisey.
Nicole Dallin took a shot in the 23rd minute off a Laissa Mbiene throw-in, receiving the ball and moving around a Gonzaga defender. Towne was there to save the shot.
In the 33rd minute Gonzaga tallied another goal. Marissa Garcia received a long pass from Kelsey Oyler and rocketed it past Hisey to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Jessica Ramirez, Desiree Foster, Dallin and Savannah Holley each took shots on goal in the match, forcing Towne to make five saves throughout the course of the day.
The Zags got a third goal on the board in the 72nd minute as Paige Alexander put it past Hisey.
Arizona will begin Pac-12 action Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. as they welcome Oregon to Mulcahy Stadium.
