TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona Women's Tennis Team wrapped up their fall season at home this weekend with the Wildcat Invite.
This weekend the Cats hosted NAU, GCU, UCSD, and PSU for the three-day Wildcat Invite.
Friday
Friday morning Josie Usereau and Belen Nevenhoven defeated Haynes/Nguyen (UCSD) 6-4. Karissa Ghigiarelli and Teja Tirunelveli fell to Duhl/Niewiadomska (NAU) 1-6. Usereau also won her singles match Friday against Daryna Shoshyna (NAU)in a three set breaker, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. Ghigiarelli came out on top in her match against Angelina Mihajlovic (GCU) 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Nevenhoven lost her singles match 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 against Laura Duhl (NAU). Tirunelveli retired in the third set against Dania Deafi (GCU).
Saturday
Usereau and Nevenhoven started off their Saturday with a win, defeating Deaifi/Mihajlovic (GCU) 6-2 in doubles. Usereau lost her second doubles match of the day with Ghigiarelli against Noguera/Stojanovic (NAU) 4-6. Nevenhoven was able to bring two wins home Saturday, defeating Nika Beukers (PSU) in her singles match, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Both Usereau and Ghigiarelli were defeated in their singles matches.
Sunday
Sunday was a clean sweep for our singles players. Usereau defeated Patrycja Niewiadomska (NAU) in a three-set breaker 6-7, 6-2, 6-1. Nevenhoven also went to a third set, defeating Naomi Nguyen (UCSD) 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Ghigiarelli had a straight set win against Andrea Noguera (NAU) 6-2, 6-3. Usereau and Nevenhoven lost their doubles match Sunday morning 6-3 against Shoshyna/Jantacova (NAU).
The Cats will begin their Spring season January 17th at home with a double-header against LMU and UCSD.
