Box Score TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (1-1) battled but ultimately fell 8-7 in a back-and-forth contest with the Northeastern Huskies (1-1) on Saturday afternoon in Tucson.
Twice the Wildcats rallied from deficits in game two, once with a five-run fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead, and once with an RBI double from
Richie Morales in the bottom of the eighth to even the game at 7-7. A solo home run from Northeastern in the top of the ninth inning proved decisive.
Starting pitcher
Clark Candiotti, making his Arizona debut, settled in after a three-run first inning to post a solid performance for the Cats. The senior right-hander worked five innings and allowed just two earned runs while striking out five. He did not factor into the decision.
Garen Caulfield,
Tommy Splaine, and
Easton Breyfogle all notched multiple hits for the Wildcats at the plate, while Caulfield and
Brendan Summerhill both drove in multiple runs.
