TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona beat Indiana, 10-9, in a 14-inning thriller and run-ruled Marshall, 10-2 in five innings, on Saturday to improve to 15-1.
Game 1 | Arizona 10, Indiana 9 (14 innings)
Arizona played its first 14-inning game since 1997 and won on a walk-off single from
Jasmine Perezchica to beat Indiana, 10-9. Perezchica went 4-for-4 with two RBI and
Emily Schepp led the Cats with three RBI.
The Hoosiers and the Wildcats each scored one run in the second. In the top of the third, Indiana hit a solo home run, but Arizona took advantage of an error and scored on a double play to add two runs and take a 3-2 lead heading into the fourth.
In the top of the fifth, Indiana hit another solo home run to tie the game. The Hoosiers hit their third home run of the game in the top of the seventh for a 4-3 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Schepp hit an RBI single to tie the game and force extra innings.
The two teams traded runs in the eighth to make it 5-5 and both teams held each other scoreless in the ninth inning.
In the 10th and 11th innings, both teams scored one run in each inning and held each other scoreless in the 12th and 13th innings.
Indiana scored two in the 14th on a two-RBI single to take a 9-7 lead.
Arizona scored two runs on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the 14th. With the bases loaded and two outs, Perezchica singled to third base to score
Blaise Biringer and win the game.
Aissa Silva pitched 10.1 innings to win her sixth game of the season. The sophomore allowed seven hits but only two earned runs. Silva started the game in the circle and was relieved by
Miranda Stoddard in the top of the fourth. Stoddard went 3.2 innings and allowed two runs before Silva reentered in the bottom of the seventh to complete the game.
Game 2 | Arizona 10, Marshall 2 (5 innings)
Following the 14-inning win against Indiana, Arizona run-ruled Marshall 10-2 in five innings in the second game of the day. Three Wildcats –
Olivia DiNardo, Schepp, and
Carlie Scupin each homered in the win.
Marshall scored two in the first inning on a defensive error from Arizona and a wild pitch to take a 2-0 lead. Arizona tied the game in the bottom of the second on Schepp's two-run home run – her third of the season.
In the third inning, Scupin drove in Arizona's third run of the game with an RBI single to score
Regan Shockey from second base.
Arizona plated its fourth run due to a throwing error by Marshall in the fourth inning for a 4-2 lead.
The Wildcats exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to mercy rule Marshall. Scupin and DiNardo hit back-ot-back homers to plate the first three runs of the inning and
Allie Skaggs singled to left field to score Biringer to add another run. With the bases loaded, Schepp scored on a wild pitch and then Scupin drove in her fourth run of the game to walk-off the Thundering Herd.
In the circle,
Ali Blanchard improved to 2-0, allowing just one hit in 3.0 innings in relief. Silva started the game and allowed Marshall's two runs before Blachard entered in relief.
