Wildcats Prepare for Pair of Meets this Weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas & SEATTLE, Wash. – For the second time this season, Arizona Track & Field will send competitors to a pair of away meets this Friday and Saturday. Both the Texas Tech Jarvis Scott Open in Lubbock, Texas and the Husky Invitational in Seattle, Wash., are two-day meets that will begin on Friday for the team. The majority of the Wildcats will head to Texas, while the distance squad returns to Seattle.

"Every sport designs their training and schedules based upon peaking at the right time," said Head Coach Fred Harvey. "Our next three competitions at Texas Tech, the University of Washington, and the USA Championships are in place for that reason. We are mentally and physically fit and our expectations are to have the highest level of performances and personal bests of the indoor season. No excuses. The facilities are top of the line, as well as the competition, and we are ready for the challenge."

The Texas Tech Jarvis Scott Open begins at 2:00 p.m. MST on Friday and at 9:00 a.m. MST on Saturday. Both days of competition can be streamed on ESPN+ ($). Live results for both days can be found here.

The Husky Invitational gets started at 2:30 p.m. MST on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. MST on Friday. The Wildcats will not be competing in any field events at the competition. Live results for both days can be found here.

The Wildcats gained valuable experience last weekend at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, facing the most competitive field they have seen this indoor season. The men's shot put squad stole the show for the team, with Zach Landa and Tyler Michelini finishing first and second in the event. It was the second consecutive week that the pair finished one and two in the event. Landa posted a season best throw and Michelini had a personal best throw, which helped catapult the event group to the number one ranking in the nation in this week's USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings. Landa's mark ranks 15th in the nation and Michelini's ranks 19th. The weekend also included 17 new individual personal bests for the Wildcats.

Last time that Arizona's distance crew competed in Seattle, Wash., the team saw a trio of personal bests from Sailor Hutton, Kara Mickelson, and Cade Russo. That came in the opening weekend of the indoor season at the University of Washington Preview.

The Wildcats had five total event groups in this week's USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings. The rankings are based on the team's top-four marks from different competitors. Men's shot put jumped from second last week, to first this week after improvements to both Landa's and Michelini's marks. Youssef Koudssi and Michael Ogbeiwi rounded out the top four in the event for the team. Other rankings included ninth in the women's long jump, 17th in the women's shot put, 18th in the men's 200m, and 19th in the women's high jump. Additionally, the Arizona Men climbed to third in the West Region in the USTFCCCA Regional TFRI, while the Arizona Women stayed steady at fifth.

A meet recap will be posted here detailing the competition results. Live updates will also be posted to @ArizonaTrack on X.
