TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (7-9, 2-2) dropped a back-and-forth series opener to the Arizona State Sun Devils (8-9, 2-2) on Friday night at Hi Corbett Field.
Starting pitcher
Jackson Kent spun a gem for Arizona, working a career-high 7.1 innings and limiting ASU to just one unearned run. The southpaw struck out five and did not factor into the decision.
Reliever
Casey Hintz took over for Arizona in the eighth with the tying run on second. The sophomore induced a ground out and stranded the tying run at third base with a strike out.
The Wildcats briefly took their second lead of the night on a Sun Devil throwing error in the bottom of the eighth inning. A spectacular diving catch from right fielder
Emilio Corona opened the top of the ninth, but couldn't prevent the ASU rally that decided the game.
