Wildcats Salvage Series With 14-3 Win Over Sun Devils

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (8-10, 3-3) salvaged their weekend series against the Arizona State Sun Devils (9-10, 3-3) with a 14-3 victory on Sunday evening.

Wildcat fans packed Hi Corbett Field for the Territorial Cup series to the tune of a weekend attendance totaling 14,330.

Arizona's offense pounded out 20 hits and shared the spotlight with the Wildcats bullpen, who combined to hold the Sun Devils scoreless on six hits over the final 6.1 innings. Right-hander Trevor Long (1-1) earned the win after working 1.2 innings and allowing just one hit while striking out two.

Right fielder Emilio Corona opened the scoring for Arizona with a solo home run that led off the second inning; his fifth home run of the season was the opening of a five-run salvo in the second. The Wildcats scored twice in the fouth and fifth innings, and put the game to bed with another five-run outburst in the seventh.

Left fielder Easton Breyfogle and designated hitter Maddox Mihalakis both hammered out four hits for the first time in their careers to lead the way on offense. Second baseman Garen Caulfield and third baseman Richie Morales each drove in three runs and collected multiple hits.

With a single in the bottom of the eighth inning, Tommy Splaine ensured that every single member of the Wildcats starting lineup collected at least one hit off Sun Devil pitchers.
