ATHENS, Ga. - Arizona's
Brooke Earley and
Julia Heimstead have completed their week in Athens at the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Cats began their competition Thursday with the 1-Meter dive (Earley) and the 50 Freestyle (Heimstead). In a highly competitive preliminary round, Earley took 45th of 51 with 226.35. Heimstead finished 53rd of 61 with 22.52 in the 50 Free.
Friday, Earley upped the score with an 18th place finish in 3-Meter prelim rounds, establishing herself as a final alternate- ultimately, she did not compete in finals. Heimstead also improved from Thursday, clocking 52.08 and taking 35th place in the 100 Fly in prelim rounds Friday. On the final day, the senior had her best performance in the 200 Fly with a 22nd place finish in prelims with a time of 1:55.44.
This marks the end of an impressive season for both Earley and Heimstead.
Earley posted 53 total points for Arizona this year during post-season competition. The diver took a third-place finish at Pac-12's in the 3m, her first ever Pac-12 Diver of the Week award- twice- and qualified for her first ever national championships.
Heimstead put up 58 individual points and 36 relay points, making 106 total, throughout post-season racing. After four years with the Wildcats, Heimstead has proven to be a standout individual swimmer with her consistent performances while playing a pivotal role in Arizona's relay teams. Heimstead took a Pac-12 Swimmer of the Month award in November, two individual top-eight finishes at conference championships and qualified to national championships for the third consecutive year.
