Arizona Splits Doubleheader with Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Arizona (18-5-1) split the doubleheader with Oregon State to open conference play. The Wildcats lost the first game, 2-3, but won the second game, 6-4.
 
Game 1 | Oregon State 3, Arizona 2
Arizona lost the first game of the day, 2-3, to the Beavers. The Wildcats tallied seven hits but could only plate two.
 
Oregon State hit a solo home run in the second inning. The Beavers hit another solo homer in the fourth inning for a 2-0 lead.
 
In the top of the seventh, Carlie Scupin tied the game at 2-2 on a two-RBI single to right field. Arizona's defense kept Oregon State scoreless in the seventh to force extra innings.
 
The Wildcats had two runners on base in the top of the eighth but couldn't plate a run. The Beavers walked it off in the bottom of the eight on a fielder's choice.
 
Miranda Stoddard picked up the loss to fall to 2-4 on the season. She pitched 0.2 innings but gave up the losing run. Aissa Silva went 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits in the game. Ali Blanchard faced five batters in 1.1 innings, allowing two hits but no runs to score.
 
Game 2 | Arizona 6, Oregon State 4
The Wildcats won the second game of the doubleheader, 6-4, over the Beavers. Scupin and Skaggs each went 3-for-4 and both drove in two runs in the game.
 
Arizona scored in the first on an RBI fielder's choice from Olivia DiNardo to score Regan Shockey. The Wildcats added one run in the top of the fifth on Scupin's first RBI double of the game for a 2-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, Oregon State scored four runs to take the lead on a solo home run and a pair of singles to drive in four runs.
 
Arizona regained the lead in the top of the seventh with a four-run inning to make it 6-4. Dakota Kennedy opened the scoring with an RBI double and Scupin hit her second RBI double of the game to tie it. Skaggs hit her fifth home run of the season – a two-run shot to right field – to give Arizona a two-run lead.
 
Silva and Stoddard worked together to not allow Oregon State to score in the bottom of the seventh and secure the win for the Cats.
 
In the circle, Silva picked up the win to improve to 10-1 and Stoddard earned her second save of the season when she entered with the tying run on deck and worked her way out of the inning. Silva pitched 1.2 innings and did not allow a run to score in the game. Stoddard went 5.0 innings, split between the start and the end of the game, and struck out two batters. Blanchard pitched 0.1 innings and faced three batters in the fifth inning.

The Wildcats will close out the first Pac-12 series of the season against Oregon State on Saturday, March 9 at 6 p.m. MST.
