TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (21-13) rolled to their eleventh straight win on Sunday morning at Hi Corbett Field, a 5-2 victory over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (26-12) that completed a series sweep.
Starting pitcher
Cam Walty (6-1) earned his sixth win of the season in dominant fashion, allowing just two unearned runs on four hits across 7.0 innings. The right-hander didn't issue a walk and matched his season-high with eight strikeouts.
The Wildcats bullpen took over in the eighth and slammed the door shut on the Bulldogs. Left-hander
Eric Orloff and right-hander
Tony Pluta combined to scatted just one hit; Orloff fanned two Louisiana Tech batters and Pluta earned his second save of the year.
Right fielder
Emilio Corona broke open the scoring early with a first inning RBI single, his first of two on the day. The Wildcats dropped three runs in the third inning and one more in the fifth to round out their offensive efforts. Louisiana Tech got two runs on a home run in the top of the sixth but couldn't manage any more, creating the final margin of 5-2.
Arizona has now won 11 straight games, improving their record from 10-13 all the way to 21-13. The Wildcats have also collected three consecutive weekend series sweeps, taking down UCLA, California, and Louisiana Tech in order.
