TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Track & Field wrapped up day one of the Jim Click Shootout and Multi's on Friday at Drachman Stadium. The Wildcats competed in the heptathlon along with four field events on the day, with Saturday set to be a full slate of track, field, and multi's events. To highlight the day,
Jared O'Riley won the men's javelin to earn his second victory of the season.
TOP-THREE FINISHES
Jared O'Riley – First, Men's Javelin, 227-3 (69.27m)
FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
For the second consecutive meet,
Jared O'Riley won the men's javelin for the Wildcats. O'Riley's winning throw of 227-3 (69.27m) is a season best for the reigning Pac-12 Champion in the event and came on his fourth throw of the competition.
Ava David opened the day for the Wildcats in the women's hammer throw. She placed fifth overall with a season best heave of 194-11 (59.42m).
Lauryn Love posted a personal best mark in the event as well. In the men's hammer throw,
Michael Ogbeiwi finished in eighth place with a personal record toss of 195-4 (59.55m).
In the women's javelin, freshman
Aislin Martinez-Pompa placed sixth overall with a throw of 147-10 (45.06m).
MULTIS HIGHLIGHTS
Two Wildcats competed in their first heptathlons of the season:
Hollan Powers and
Emily Psarras. Powers started the day with a big personal best run in the 100m hurdles, clocking a time of 13.76 to place third in the event. In the second event of the day, the high jump, Powers cleared a height right around her personal record.
Next in the shot put, Powers placed ninth and Psarras finished 14th. To finish day one, Powers clocked a time of 24.53 (+3.8) to place seventh in the event. Heading into day two, Powers leads the Wildcats and sits in eighth place with a score of 3254.
UP NEXT
Day two of the Jim Click Shootout and Multi's begins at 9:30 a.m. MST on Saturday with the completion of the multi's events. Field events begin at 11:00 a.m. MST and running events get underway at 12:30 p.m. MST.
