TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona celebrated their Senior Day with a victory over Washington State by the score of 5-2 after recognizing seniors
Brandelyn Fulgenzi and
Kayla Wilkins before the match. Â
The Wildcats downed the Cougars by winning all of their singles points with the exception of one. Back-and-forth matches involving
Reece Carter,
Kayla Wilkins and Midori Castillo ended up being the fulcrum that sealed the victory for Arizona. Each member of those pivotal matches took them to a third set.

After dropping the doubles point, Arizona got right back to work as
Tanvi Narendran was quick to tie up the score and put Arizona on the board in a straight-set victory over Tiffany Phout 6-0, 6-1. WSU put themselves back in the lead as their player on court 3 won by retirement before Fulgenzi came back to give the Wildcats a point after a 6-4, 6-2 take down over Hania Abouselsaad.

No.111 Carter fell in her first set 3-6, but gained momentum and came back to win her match on court one over Eva Alvarez 6-0, 6-2 to put the Wildcats in the lead 3-2. Wilkins and Castillo were left on court two and four going to three sets against the Cougars. Kumhom led in the first set 6-2, but Castillo bounced back in the final two sets 6-2, 7-6(7-4). This win put the match score at 4-2 which gave the Wildcats the win. Wilkins finished off her senior day with one more win on court two 4-6, 7-6(7-4), 7-5.Â
In the morning doubles action, the Cats' first victory of the day was senior Wilkins, and freshman Teja Tiruneveli securing the win on court three 6-1. However, Washington State earned the doubles point with wins on court one and two as Elyse Tse and Eva Alvarez defeated
Brandelyn Fulgenzi and
Reece Carter 6-4 as Fifa Kumhom andYura Nakagawa downed
Belen Nevenhoven and Martyna Ostryzgalo 6-1.
Arizona will have a quick turnaround to their next match as they host the Washington Huskies on Sunday, April 7 after the initial meeting that was scheduled for Friday has been postponed. The two teams will take the courts of the Robson Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Arizona at 9:30 a.m. (MST).
