SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Home runs from
Mason White and
Garen Caulfield helped propel the Arizona Wildcats (34-20) to a 6-5 victory over the Washington Huskies (19-31-1) on Wednesday night at the Pac-12 Tournament.
As the No. 1 seed in the tournament, Arizona's victory ensured them of a spot in the semifinal round on Friday.Â
After Washignton took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Caulfield responded with a solo shot in the top of the second to get the Wildcats on the board. He has now logged one home run in each of the three iterations of the Pac-12 Tournament.
White's three-run blast onto the roof of the right field party decks gave Arizona a 4-2 lead in the third, and a pair of RBI singles from
Brendan Summerhill and White in the sixth extended the lead to 6-2.
Every member of the Wildcats starting lineup recorded a hit, as the team combined to hammer out 14 base knocks. White led the way with a pair of hits and four RBI.
Left-hander
Bradon Zastrow got the start on the mound in what would amount to a bullpen day for the Wildcats; he did not factor into the decision. Right-handersÂ
Tony Pluta and
Kyler Heyne both logged a pair of scoreless innings, with the former earning the win to improve to 2-1. Anthony Susac worked the ninth inning for Arizona and locked up his team-leading third save of the season.
