Arizona Women Compete on Day Two of NCAA West First Round Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arizona Track and Field competed on day two of the NCAA West First Round Championships Thursday.

With the men kicking off the competition on Wednesday, this was the Arizona Women's first chance to compete at the first-round championships. Two Wildcats, Antonia Sanchez Nunez and McKenna Watson, advanced to the quarterfinals of track events which will be held on Saturday.

FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
In the women's long jump, freshman Sydnie Vanek just narrowly missed out on advancing to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. Vanek jumped 21-4.75 (6.52m) (+2.7) which is right around her personal best but finished 13th overall. The field was incredibly competitive with five jumpers leaping that distance in the event and nine of the top 12 jumpers posting season-best jumps, which bumped Vanek outside of the qualifying top 12. In the women's hammer, Ava David placed 19th overall with a throw of 190-8 (58.13m).
