Wildcats Set for NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - Arizona Track and Field wraps up outdoor season with the NCAA Championships at Oregon's Hayward Field from Wednesday, June 5 to Saturday, June 8.

The Wildcats punched six tickets to the final outdoor championships between three individuals and one relay team: Sir Jonathan Sims, Yan Vazquez, Trayvion White-Austin, and the men's 4x100m relay.

The four-day competition begins on Wednesday with men's events and will alternate between men's and women's events each day. A schedule breakdown for Wildcat competitors can be found below. The first three days of competition are on the ESPN Family of Networks. Each running event will include a semifinal and final during the week.

The championship competition features the top 12 West and East Region First Round Championships finishers in each event.

"Outside of the Olympic Games and the World Championship finals, the NCAA Championships are the best Track and Field competition in the world. We are very competitive, and every athlete has a legitimate opportunity to be a First-Team All-American." - Fred Harvey - Director of Cross Country/Track & Field.

Sir Jonathan Sims: Sims was the first Wildcat to punch his ticket to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Championships with his ninth-place finish in the men's long jump. Sims' best jump at the competition of 25-4.75 (7.74m) came on his last attempt and catapulted him into the top 12 to qualify for the final. It is the sophomore's first career appearance at the NCAA Championships. In the men's triple jump, Sims punched his second ticket of the week with a personal best leap of 52-2.5 (15.91m) to finish seventh overall. That mark is fourth all-time in school history. It was also the second consecutive meet that Sims jumped a personal best, with the last coming at the Pac-12 Championships to help him earn the conference crown.

Yan Vazquez: In the men's 400m hurdles quarterfinals, Vazquez clocked a big personal best time of 50.54 to qualify for his first career NCAA Championships. He finished fourth in his heat but clocked the ninth overall fastest time on the day to advance to Eugene. The sophomore's new personal best time moved him up to fourth all-time in school history in the event.

Trayvion White-Austin: White-Austin clocked an incredible time of 10.05 (+2.9) in the men's 100m quarterfinals to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the event. That time was an all-conditions personal best and school record for White-Austin, who holds the program record in the 100m with his eligible PB time of 10.14 that he ran this outdoor season. He finished fourth in his heat and 11th overall to punch his ticket to Eugene, in an ultra-competitive 100m that included five sprinters going sub-10 seconds. It is the first time in the senior's career that he will compete in a solo event at the NCAA Championships. He kept it going in the men's 200m quarterfinals, qualifying in his second solo event with a time of 20.48 (+2.1). He finished fourth in his heat and 12th overall to grab the last spot to Eugene and impressively go 3/3 in a single day on advancing in his events (100m, 200m, 4x100m).

Men's 4x100m Relay: Arizona's 4x100m relay team of Trayvion White-Austin, Brian Limage, James Onanubosi, and Tyson Tippett punched their ticket to Eugene with a season-best time of 39.07 in the quarterfinals of the event. The team finished second in their heat to automatically qualify and placed fifth overall. That time was the fourth fastest all-time in school history. This will be the second year in a row that White-Austin, Limage, and Onanubosi have advanced to the NCAA Championships in the relay.
