TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Swimming & Diving head coach
Ben Loorz on Wednesday proudly announced the hiring of Lauren Sullivan as an assistant coach for the Wildcats.
Sullivan joins the program in Tucson following one season as an assistant coach at George Washington, where she helped lead the Revolutionaries to a pair of Atlantic 10 Conference championships on the men's and women's sides.
"We are excited to welcome Coach Sullivan to Tucson," Loorz said. "Her passion for Arizona Swimming and Diving really came through in the hiring process. She is a highly organized coach who will play a major role on the deck and on the recruiting trail."
While at George Washington for the 2023-24 season, Sullivan was a key contributor to a program that produced 18 Atlantic 10 Conference records, 29 program records, three NCAA Championships qualifiers, one NCAA All-American, and much more.
Sullivan's student-athletes at George Washington found success on an international scale as well, with the program boasting three US Olympic Trials qualifiers and one World Championships qualifier. Additionally, Sullivan directly led the development and training for two individual swimmers who competed at the 2024 European Aquatics Championships in Belgrade last month.
"I'd like to thank
Ben Loorz and the entire Arizona coaching staff for the opportunity to further my coaching career at the University of Arizona," Sullivan said. "I'm thrilled about the opportunity to coach elite athletes at both the NCAA and international levels and cannot wait to learn and develop alongside the student-athletes and coaches each day. Bear Down!"
Previous to George Washington, Sullivan served two seasons as a graduate assistant at Northeastern University from 2021–23. Over that stretch the Huskies produced three individual CAA champions, one CAA relay champion, and four All-CAA swimmers. In her second year with Northeastern the Huskies finished third at the CAA Championships, a significant improvement from their last place finish the year prior.
While coaching at Northeastern she graduated with a Masters of Science in Speech Language Pathology with a sparkling 4.0 GPA while also earning the Northeastern University Research Excellence Award.
Before diving into a coaching career, Sullivan spent four years as a standout student-athlete at Bowling Green. While swimming primarily the backstroke and freestyle, she was a 14-time finalist at the MAC Championships and a three-time member of the MAC All-Academic team.
Sullivan's excellence extended to the classroom as well at BGSU, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA and was the recipient of the BGSU Presidential Medal of Honor. Twice Sullivan was named the BGSU Athletics Community Service Individual of the Year and following graduation she earned the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Award.
