COLFAX, Wash. – Arizona Cross Country continued their season on Friday night with the Cougar Classic hosted by Washington State at the Colfax Golf Course. The Arizona Men placed fourth overall in their first 8k of the season and the Arizona Women finished eighth in their first 6k of the season.

In the women's 6k, senior
Alisa Lyesina led the way for the Wildcats finishing first for the team and 39th overall with a time of 21:54.6. She was followed closely by freshman
Laina Friedmann, who clocked a time of 21:57.7 and placed 43rd overall. The team's third, fourth, and fifth runners were
Brooklyn Hanania,
Kara Mickelson, and
Eleanor Korten Kamp. Besides Lyesina, it was the first official 6k completed by the other four Wildcats in their collegiate careers.

In the men's 8k,
Gideon Mengich finished first for the team for the second consecutive competition. Mengich ended in sixth overall with a time of 23:59.4.
Ian Sanchez Lopez was the team's second finisher, placing 12th with a time of 24:15.8.
Cooper Quigley placed third for the team and 16th overall with a time of 24:20.9 and
Michael Urbanski finished fourth for the team and 25th overall with a time of 24:29.7. The team's fifth runner was freshman
Mateo Pimienta, who made his Wildcat debut.
Noah Ray also clocked an 8k personal best time.

Overall, the Arizona Men finished fourth in a competitive field with a score of 127. The Arizona Women placed eighth with a score of 266.
