FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Arizona Track & Field begins the 2024-25 indoor season on Friday with the Friday Night Axe 'Em Open. The meet will be hosted by Northern Arizona at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome and marks the first official competition of the year for the Wildcats.
The competition is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. MST on Friday with field events. Running events get underway at 3:00 p.m. MST. Live results for the full afternoon of competition can be found
here.
"It's very exciting to get the 2024-25 season underway," said the Director of Cross Country/Track & Field
Fred Harvey. "We had a fantastic Red-White-Blue competition, followed by quality training over our winter break. I feel we have the talent to be competitive at the Big 12 and NCAA level and it starts now in Flagstaff on Friday night."
The Wildcats had five outdoor All-Americans last season who all return to compete during this indoor season:
Brian Limage (4x100m),
James Onanubosi (4x100m),
Tyson Tippett (4x100m),
Yan Vazquez (400m Hurdles), and
Trayvion White-Austin (4x100m). White-Austin left his mark on the school's record book during the last indoor and outdoor seasons, setting school records in the indoor 60m, indoor 200m, outdoor 100m, and outdoor 100m (wind). He was also a member of the men's 4x100m relay team, along with Limage, Onanubosi, and Tippett, that broke the school record at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Wildcats also return
Emma Gates, who won the women's high jump at the team's last Pac-12 Championships. Additionally,
Jade Brown and
Sydnie Vanek return after setting school freshman records last outdoor season in the 100m and long jump, respectively.
During Arizona's last indoor season, the team posted 22 first-place finishes. This season will present new opportunities for the team with it being their first official season in the Big 12. It will also be the first season in some time where the team will have both an indoor and outdoor conference championship.
A meet recap will be posted
here detailing the competition results. Live updates will also be posted to @ArizonaTrack on
