Peat Garners National, Conference Accolades After Monster Opening Week

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona freshman forward Koa Peat burst onto the national scene in his first week of college basketball and has received national and conference recognition for his efforts. He was named the National Player of the Week and National Freshman of the Week by NCAA.com and he earned Big 12 Co-Player of the Week and Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors. 

Peat also received the Lute Olson Award National Player of the Week presented by collegeinsider.com.

In the season opener, Peat posted a legendary performance in his college debut with 30 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals while shooting 11 of 18 from the floor. It marked the second-most points scored by an Arizona freshman in his debut, trailing only Eric Money's 37-point effort in his debut in 1972. Peat also became the first player to score 30 points and have five assists in his debut in Big 12 history. In the second game of the week, Peat registered 18 points on 6 of 7 shooting to go with three more assists.

For the week, he averaged 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 68% from the floor and 70% at the free throw line. 

Peat is the second Wildcat to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors, joining Caleb Love who earned the recognition on Feb. 3, 2025.
