Box Score TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona women's basketball team took down the Tigers of Grambling State, earning its third win of the season, 85-64 on Sunday afternoon inside the McKale Center.
The Wildcats were led by Mickayla Perdue and freshman Daniah Trammell with 15 points apiece marking the third straight game in double-figures for both. Junior guard Sumayah Sugapong contributed 13 points of her own becoming now 13 points closer to 1,000 career points. Junior Tanyuel Welch brought the intensity off the bench as well pitching in 12 points along with a team-high eight rebounds.
Freshman Mireia Jurado grabbed eight rebounds as well to match Welch. Arizona demonstrated a complete team effort with four players in double figures and at least three points from each player who touched the floor.
Guard Noelani Cornfield facilitated the offense getting her teammates involved distributing 10 assists on only one turnover. It marks Cornfield's second consecutive game in double-figure assists and the first time an Arizona women's basketball player has achieved the feat in over 20 years. Through three games, she continues to lead the country in assists per game at 10.0.
Arizona's swarming defense limited the Tigers to only 35% shooting from the field while forcing 17 turnovers. The Wildcats' inside presence overwhelmed the Tigers, outscoring them by 30 points in the paint.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 26 point lead, their largest of the game early in the 4th quarter led by a 14-0 scoring run. After being down nine points after the first quarter, the Wildcats surged forward and never looked back to take control of the game.
Arizona improves to 3–0 and returns to action on Friday, Nov. 21, against Northern Arizona in McKale Center at 6 p.m. MST honoring former player and current WNBA player Aari McDonald. The game will stream live on ESPN+.
