TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Football defensive back
Dalton Johnson has earned his second consecutive Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award, the conference announced on Monday.
Johnson, who earned the same award last week following his 18-tackle performance against Baylor, picks up the Wildcats seventh Big 12 weekly award of the season, their most since securing seven weekly awards in 2023.
The redshirt senior logged another dominant defensive performance in the Territorial Cup, registering an interception, a forced fumble, and two pass breakups in the Wildcats 23-7 victory. Johnson's efforts earned an 82.9 PFF grade, the second best single-game mark of his career. Johnson's interception ended ASU's final drive of the game and sealed the victory for Arizona.
Johnson was a leader in the Wildcats secondary that limited ASU to just 114 passing yards on 25 attempts, giving Arizona eight consecutive games holding their opponent under 200 passing yards, the longest active streak in the FBS and the longest in the Big 12 since 2004. Overall, Johnson and the Arizona defense held the Sun Devils to 214 yards and seven points, both their lowest marks since November 2023.
Johnson and the Wildcats will learn their bowl destination and opponent this coming Sunday, Dec. 7. Once their postseason plans are locked in Arizona will seek their 10th win of the season, a feat that has been accomplished just four times previously in program history.
