Arizona Falls Short Against Southern University 57-63

TUCSON, Ariz. — On Wednesday night at McKale Center, Arizona fell to Southern University, 63–57, marking the Wildcats' first loss of the season. Arizona drops to 6–1 overall.

After a slow first half, the Wildcats surged in the third quarter behind Mickayla Perdue and Sumayah Sugapong, who fueled a 22-point frame that briefly gave Arizona the lead. Perdue finished with 17 points—including a pair of three-pointers—while Sugapong added 10 points, four rebounds, and three steals.

Arizona forced 25 turnovers and converted them into 14 points, sparking multiple runs in the second half. Freshman Daniah Trammell chipped in nine points, and Nora François was strong on the glass with a team-high 11 rebounds.

Offensively, the Wildcats struggled to find rhythm, shooting 41.2% from the field and 23.1% from three. Arizona won the battle on the boards (34–31) and dominated the paint (34–26), but Southern used timely shot-making and a 20-point third quarter of their own to hold control down the stretch.

Southern was led by Demya Porter, who posted 16 points on an efficient 8-of-13 shooting night. The Jaguars had four players with at least eight points and 35 points from their bench.

Arizona will look to bounce back at home on Sunday, Dec. 7, when they host the New Mexico Lobos at McKale Center. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
