TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Women's Tennis pulled off an impressive 4-3 upset over No. 24 UC Santa Barbara on Friday afternoon.
The match began with a tough doubles battle, where Arizona fell short on all three courts, allowing UCSB to claim the doubles point and take an early 1-0 lead. Despite dropping the doubles point, the Cats responded in singles play, securing four crucial wins to steal the match.
Tanvi Narendran was the first Wildcat to put Arizona on the board, delivering a strong 6-3, 6-2 victory over Ali Benedetto (UCSB). Martyna Ostrzygalo followed with a statement win, defeating No. 74 Anna Weissheim (UCSB) 6-2, 6-4 to even the match at 2-2. Zoya Chulak then stepped up in a three-set battle, taking down Lily Pradkin 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 to push Arizona ahead for the first time. Danielle Tuhten secured the match for Arizona, taking down Emma Tutoveanu (UCSB) 7-5, 6-4.
With this statement win, Arizona looks to carry its momentum into Sunday's home matchup against No. 23 Texas Tech. The Cats will kick off Sunday's match at 10:00 a.m. MST, and can be streamed via Playsight.
