HOUSTON, Texas — The Arizona Wildcats (7-3) collected their third straight win on Saturday afternoon, a 6-5 ranked victory over the No. 18 Mississippi State Bulldogs (7-3).
Facing two runners on base and no outs in the bottom of the ninth and clinging to a one-run lead, the Wildcats turned to right-handed reliever
Tony Pluta. His escape act sealed an Arizona victory and earned him his first save of the season.
Starting pitcher
Owen Kramkowski (1-1) earned his first career win after working six gutsy innings. The tall right-hander pieced together a five-hit, four-run performance while striking out eight Bulldog batters.
Shortstop
Mason White provided the majority of Arizona's offense, plating a pair on two-run home run into the Crawford Boxes in the first inning and driving in two more on a single though the left side in second inning.
The decisive run came via first baseman
Tommy Splaine, who singled home designated hitter
Andrew Cain following his leadoff double to open the sixth inning.
