TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (15-4, 3-0) extended their win streak to eight games and secured a series sweep with an 11-1 run-rule victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats (11-9, 0-3) on Sunday afternoon at Hi Corbett Field.
For the third time in their current eight-game homestand, the Wildcats offense posted double-digit runs. Arizona was led at the plate by shortstop
Mason White (3-for-4) and second baseman
Garen Caulfield (2-for-4) who combined for six RBI. Right fielder
Brendan Summerhill (3-for-3) and third baseman
Maddox Mihalakis (2-for-4) also both logged multiple hits.
Starting pitcher
Smith Bailey (1-1) earned his first collegiate win after working 5.0 scoreless innings. The tall right-hander allowed just two hits and struck out five in the winning effort.
With the win the Wildcats picked up a series sweep in their first-ever Big 12 Conference series; they sit tied atop the conference standings after one weekend of play at 3-0.
