STILLWATER, Okla. – The #35 Arizona Women's Tennis team split its matches in Stillwater, defeating #59 Tulsa but falling to #34 Oklahoma State.
Sunday morning, Arizona was quick to earn the doubles point in their match against Tulsa.
Midori Castillo-Meza and
Belen Nevenhoven got it rolling for Arizona with their 6-3 win over Basson and Wilmont (TLS).
Danielle Tuhten and
Josie Usereau defeated #67 Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings (TLS) 6-3 to clinch the doubles point on court one.
In singles play,
Midori Castillo-Meza earned her first win of the day in a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 victory over Lily Hutchings (TLS). Freshman
Zoya Chulak won her match on court six against Erin McKenzie (TLS) 6-3, 6-4.
Tanvi Narendran followed closely and clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Tayla Wilmot (TLS).
Later that afternoon, the #35 Arizona Wildcats faced #34 Oklahoma State.
The Wildcats surrendered the doubles point, dropping matches on courts two and three. In singles competition, Arizona earned its first victory on court one, where No. 47 Josie Usereau secured a gritty three-set victory (7-5, 5-7, 6-0) against Melisa Ercan [OKST]. Midori Castillo-Meza also won her singles match against Kylie Collins [OKST] 6-4, 6-4. Tanvi Narendran also forced decisive third set, but the Wildcats were unable to complete their comebacks as Oklahoma State clinched the match.
The Arizona Wildcats are set to return home for a big rivalry match against #26 Arizona State this coming Saturday, March 29th at 12:00 p.m. MST. Saturday's match will be streamed on PlaySight and live stats will be available on StatBroadcast.
