TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 31 Arizona Wildcats edged out in-state rival No. 35 Arizona State with a 4-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
Arizona started strong in doubles play, with Danielle Tuhten and Josie Usereau earning a 7-5 win over Karin Altori and Patricija Spaka (ASU) on court one. The Wildcats secured the doubles point after Martyna Ostrzygalo and Zoya Chulak defeated Lily Taylor and Sara Svetac (ASU) 7-6 (7-3) on court two.
In singles play, ASU fought back with wins on courts one, two, and four, putting the pressure on Arizona. However, the Wildcats responded with clutch performances. Midori Castillo-Meza dominated Patricija Spaka (ASU) 6-3, 6-4 on court three, and Zoya Chulak mounted a comeback to defeat Aiya Nupbay (ASU) 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 on court six. With the match tied at 3-3, all eyes turned to court five, where Tanvi Narendran secured the deciding point in a gritty 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Karin Altori (ASU).
Arizona will return home for their next match against Baylor on Friday, April 4, at 12 p.m. at the Robson Tennis Center.
