Cats Camp Spring Notebook: Day 11

TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona Football blitzed the Tomey Practice fields for Day 11 of spring camp.

As the temperatures rise in Tucson, the Wildcats continue to put in work on the practice fields. From one-on-one drills and team periods to lively portions of practice growing in effort and emphasizing execution. The team continues to work to gel together and grow in every facet of the game.

It all culminates with the Spring Showcase on April 19 at 6 p.m. MST, inside Arizona Stadium.

Following practice, Cornerbacks Coach Chip Viney and defensive backs Jay'Vion Cole and Ayden Garnes spoke with the media after practice.

Quotes of the Day

"I am impressed with how the new guys have picked up the system, our verbiage, and how they are transitioning into the Wildcat family. I'm pleased with where we are but we are nowhere where we want to be. The standard is high with the tradition of defensive backs here at Arizona. We're nowhere near where we want to be but we are taking advantage of every opportunity that we get every day." - Coach Viney.

Ayden Garnes on what being a bone marrow donor means to him. "At my first school, Duquesne, my defensive coordinator Michael Craig and I sat down to talk about scheme one day and we went over other things and he told me that a horror story for him was when his roommate in college needed a bone marrow transplant and he couldn't find a donor to get a match for. He was in his last months of living and so when I heard that story, knowing that we had a drive (bone marrow drive) coming up it was an automatic yes to be a part of it." Garnes continued. "After playing Hawai'i, I had a BYE week and went home to Philly and I got the email that said I was a match (bone marrow donor match), and I immediately said yes. I had the surgery in Boston on Jan. 4, and by the time I woke up from that surgery, her surgery was already done. She wrote me a note and I want to keep in touch because she's out of the country so I want to get in contact with her and bring her to this country and show her what it's about."

Garnes' feelings after discovering that the recipient of his bone marrow donation will survive because of him. "It's something I will never forget."
