TUCSON, Ariz. — Dawson Netz, one of the most prolific pitchers in Arizona Baseball history and a Pitching Analyst for the 2025 Wildcats, has signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Cubs.
Netz spent five years pitching in an Arizona uniform from 2020-24 and ended his career with 94 appearances, tied for the second most in program history.
Following the conclusion of his collegiate playing career, Netz began his coaching journey with the Wildcats. The right-hander joined head coach
Chip Hale's staff as a Pitching Analyst and served in that role through the first 39 games of Arizona's 2025 season.
With his signing, Netz became the sixth pitcher from Arizona's 2024 staff to play professionally.
Jackson Kent,
Clark Candiotti, Anthony Susac, and
Cam Walty were all selected in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft last July, while
Trevor Long signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Mariners.
Netz was a two-time Pac-12 Champion with the Wildcats, pitched in two games at the College World Series in 2021, and earned numerous academic honors during his time at Arizona. He finished his career with a 6-2 record, a 3.98 ERA, and 130 strikeouts across 131 innings of work.
