Arizona Downs Oklahoma State Behind Career-First Goals

TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona (7-4-0, 2-1-0 Big 12) women's soccer picked up a 3-1 victory over Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon at Mulcahy Stadium, powered by first career goals from freshman Mireya Stephenson and sophomore Marissa Arnst.

After a scoreless first half despite a flurry of Wildcat chances, Arizona broke through in the 62nd minute in unusual fashion. A shot from Narissa Fults on the left side forced pressure in front of goal, where a Cowgirl defender mishit the clearance and knocked the ball into her own net to give the Wildcats the opening goal.

Stephenson doubled the advantage just five minutes later. The freshman forward calmly finished in the 67th minute for her first collegiate goal, putting Arizona in firm control.

Arnst sealed the result in the 75th minute, finishing a cross from Sami Baytosh for her first career goal as well.

Oklahoma State pulled one back late through Sonora De Fini in the 89th minute, but the Wildcats held steady to secure the win.

Arizona outshot the Cowgirls 21-6, including a 12-5 advantage on frame, and controlled 69% of possession. Goalkeeper Olivia Ramey finished with four saves in the victory.

The Wildcats  return to action with a two-game swing to Cincinnati and West Virginia next week looking to build on their strong start to conference play.
