LUBBOCK, Texas — Arizona dropped its second road game of the season, falling 80–49 to No. 21 Texas Tech on Saturday night at United Supermarkets Arena.
The Wildcats moved to 9–5 overall and 0–3 in Big 12 play, while the Red Raiders remained unbeaten on the season.
Tanyuel Welch led Arizona with a team-high 19 points, shooting 9-of-12 from the field and adding nine rebounds. Mickayla Perdue finished with nine points, and Noelani Cornfield contributed eight points and three assists.
Arizona briefly held the early advantage in the opening quarter before Texas Tech used an efficient shooting stretch to take a 22–11 lead after one. The Red Raiders extended the margin in the second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 27–14 to carry a 49–25 lead into halftime.
Texas Tech shot 47.5 percent from the field and connected on 13 three-pointers, while Arizona finished the night shooting 35.0 percent and went 3-of-12 from beyond the arc. Texas Tech also held the edge in bench scoring.
Arizona continued to compete in the second half, matching Texas Tech with 14 points in the fourth quarter, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. The Wildcats scored 34 points in the paint and forced 19 turnovers.
Arizona returns home looking to earn its first Big 12 victory against BYU on Tuesday, January 6 at 6 p.m.
