Arizona Set to Host Omaha for 2026 Home Opener

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (0-3) are set to commence their 2025 home schedule with a Tuesday evening matchup against the Omaha Maevrickcs (0-12 at Hi Corbett Field. First pitch for the home opener is slated for 6:00 p.m. MST.

Arizona opened the season last weekend at the College Baseball Series, narrowly falling in all three contests, while Omaha opened their campaign with a three-game series against Arizona State.

LEADING OFF:
  • The Arizona Wildcats will host Omaha for their 2026 Home Opener at Hi Corbett Field on Tuesday evening.
  • Tuesday night's contest will be broadcast on ESPN+ featuring play-by-play from Brian Jeffries.
  • Tuesday night will be the first-ever matchup between Arizona and Omaha, as the two programs have never faced on the diamond previously
  • Head coach Chip Hale — a standout alumni and Arizona's all-time leader in games played, hits, and total bases — is in his fifth year leading his alma mater. Hale has led the Wildcats to NCAA Tournament berths and 30+ wins in each of his first four seasons in charge in Tucson.
  • Highly-touted freshman Jack Lafflam is expected to make his collegiate debut on the mound Tuesday. Lafflam was ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 3 overall prospect and No. 2 right-handed pitcher in Arizona for the Class of 2025.
  • Senior shortstop Mathis Meurant leads the team in batting average (.375) and on-base percentage (.455) after opening weekend. Meurant went 3-8 at the plate, drawing one walk and being hit by a pitch to reach base five times across Arizona's first three games.
  • The Wildcats are 2-2 in home openers under Hale, most recently earning a dominant 10-0 win over New Mexico in the 2025 home opener.
  •  Redshirt freshman Tony Lira leads the team in hits (5) this season. Lira went 0-5 in the season opener against Stanford, before responding in tremendous fashion by going 5-9 at the plate across Arizona's final two games of opening weekend.
