WACO, Texas – Arizona opened strong but could not sustain its early momentum in a 74-60 loss at No. 15 Baylor on Friday night inside Foster Pavilion.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 22-15 lead after the first quarter, shooting 35 percent from the field and converting all nine free throw attempts in the period. Arizona led by as many as 10 midway through the opening frame.
Baylor responded in the second quarter, outscoring Arizona 23-8 to take a 38-30 advantage into halftime. The Bears extended their lead in the third quarter to as many as 18 and maintained control down the stretch.
Arizona shot 32.4 percent from the field and 2-of-15 from three-point range while going 14-of-18 at the free throw line. The Wildcats were outrebounded 50-40 overall but held a 29-15 edge on the defensive glass.
Noelani Cornfield and Daniah Trammell led Arizona with 11 points each. Molly Ladwig added a career high 10 points, and Tanyuel Welch grabbed a team-high nine rebounds..
Arizona will continue the season with its final home stand against Houston on Tuesday, February 24 at 6 p.m. MST for Senior Night.
