TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 14 Arizona won its eighth consecutive run-rule game with a 16-3 five-inning win over BYU on Saturday to sweep the series.
The Wildcats tallied 13 hits and drew six walks to plate 16 runs in the game. Four Wildcats recorded two hits in the game and
Tayler Biehl and
Sydney Stewart led the team with three RBI each.
BYU scored two runs in the first on a two-run home but Arizona took the lead in the bottom of the inning after scoring five runs. Biehl brought home Arizona's first run with an RBI single and Stewart hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
Jenna Sniffen gave the Wildcats the lead with a three-run home run – her fourth homer of the season.
The Wildcats exploded for six runs in the second to take an 11-2 lead over the Cougars.
Regan Shockey scored the first run on a wild pitch and Stewart followed with a three-run home run.
Tele Jennings and
Anyssa Wild had a pair of doubles to bring home three more Cats and give Arizona the 11-2 lead.
BYU plated one run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single.
In the bottom of the fourth, Arizona added five more runs to extend the lead to 16-3.
Emma Kavanagh and Shockey drove in the first two runs with a pair of RBI singles. Biehl added to her RBI total with a two-run single and
Sina Talataina drove in Arizona's 16th run with an RBI groundout.
Jalen Adams improved to 11-3 on the season after pitching four innings and striking out four Cougars. She allowed three runs to score on four hits.
Sarah Wright entered in the fifth to face the final three batters, striking out one and not allowing a run to score.
