Arizona Opens Lithuania Tour With 99-88 Loss to Lithuania B Team

JOVANA, Lithuania – After spending the first five days of its Lithuanian Summer Tour traversing the country, the Arizona men's basketball team finally took the court in an exhibition game against the Lithuania B Team on Wednesday night and Jovanos Sporto Arena.
The hosts got off to a good start and were able to hold off two second half runs by Arizona to hand the Wildcats a 99-88 loss in front of a standing room only crowd for the first of three games on the trip.
Arizona was led in scoring by 25 points from Ivan Kharchenkov to go along with his four assists (zero turnovers) and two steals in 27 minutes. Freshman Caleb Holt finished with 13 points on 5 of 16 shooting but did fill the stat sheet with six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Derek Dixon and Motiejus Krivas both added 10 points for the Wildcats.
The biggest story in the game was the rebounding margin, which was +18 in favor of Lithuania and the host nation was 11 of 32 from the 3-point line while Arizona was just 3 of 18.
Arizona trailed by 11 points after the first quarter and then went into the locker room trailing, 54-37. But the Wildcats started the second half with a determination to make the comeback, but it was Lithuania that pushed the lead out to 20 points.
From there, Arizona cut the lead down to eight points midway through the third quarter, but was not able to get any closer the rest of the way.
The second game of the trip will take place Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7:00 a.m. MST against Ukraine. The game will be live streamed via @ArizonaMBB YouTube channel.
