SEATTLE, Wash. – Arizona women's tennis (10-1) picked up a good road win Saturday as the Cats swept Seattle (3-11), 7-0. The match was played indoors at the Sand Point Tennis Center.

“The team played very consistent today,” said Head Coach Vicky Maes. “It is always challenging to make the transition to indoor tennis, but the girls did well. We dominated in both singles and doubles, played calm and composed the way we needed to.”

The match started off with strong doubles play again from the Cats. The duos of senior Lacey Smyth with sophomore Shayne Austin, senior Kim Stubbe with freshman Lauren Marker, and seniors Akilah James with Susan McRann won their matches, 8-1, 8-0, and 8-2, respectively.

In singles action the Cats looked dominant.

In the No. 3 spot James cruised to a victory over Barbara Carey, 6-0, 6-0 earning the second point for the Cats.

Marker continued to have success as she earned her ninth singles victory on the season in the No. 4 spot with a final score of, 6-1, 6-0.

No. 85 Stubbe notched another victory in the No. 2 spot with a final score of, 6-1, 6-0.

Shortly after Smyth earned the fifth point of the match for Arizona in the No. 1 spot with a score of, 6-2, 6-0.

Sophomore Inge Hendrikx added another point for the Cats in the No. 6 spot clinching the victory, 6-1, 6-2.

Junior Laura Oldham completed the sweep with a victory in the No. 5 spot.

“Tomorrow will be a tougher line up,” said Maes. “But this Seattle team battled hard and gave us a good match.”

The Cats will continue their road trip Sunday with the beginning of conference play when they take on No. 28 Washington. The match will begin at 11 a.m. at the Bill Quilliam Tennis Center.
