ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--- The Wildcats leave New Mexico with a tremendous amount of confidence, as three Arizona players picked up victories on the final day of the New Mexico Balloon Fiesta Invitational on Sunday.
All four Wildcats leave the tournament with .500 records or better for the weekend in both doubles and singles play.
Junior Will Kneale finished off his tournament with a dominating performance in the cherry draw, easily defeating Abilene Christian's Jason Proctor in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Kneale concludes the weekend with a 2-1 record in singles play. He moves to 3-3 on the season overall.
Transfer Will Adkisson continued his positive start to the season, as he took down Air Force's Tadgh Collins in convincing fashion, 7-5, 6-4, to also improve to 2-1 on the weekend. The newcomer now boasts an impressive 4-2 record so far this fall.
Tucson native and senior Matt Dunn nearly finished off a perfect weekend in New Mexico, but he dropped a hard-fought three set affair to New Mexico State's Mauricio Benitez in the white draw championship match, 6-7, 6-3, 7-5. Dunn finishes off the weekend with a winning mark of 2-1, as two of his three matches went to three sets. He's 3-2 in fall play thus far.
However, Dunn was able to get redemption in doubles play, as he and Kneale teamed up to earn a dramatic 8-7 victory over New Mexico State's duo of Benitez/Goncalves.
Adkisson and James participated in the gold draw doubles championship match, but couldn't quite get by host New Mexico's tandem of Augustus Ge and Rodolfo Jauregui, falling 8-4. Despite the defeat, the tandem boasted an impressive 3-1 record on the weekend.
The Wildcats now turn their attention to ITA Regional Championship action, which will begin on Thursday in Malibu, Calif.
