LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Wildcats put up a strong showing on their first day at the Jack Kramer Club Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif. as the Cats went a combined 2-1 on the day, while UA's doubles tandem and senior Naoki Takeda advanced to round of 16 action tomorrow.
Takeda, ranked No. 37 in the country, dominated in singles play, as he defeated University of Washington's Joao Barra, 6-2, 7-6 (5), giving him a combined 4-2 record for the season. Tomorrow, Takeda will take on USC's Jake DeVine after doubles play.
Sophomore Shoki Kasahara put up a fight but was defeated by LMU's Errol Smith, 6-1, 6-3 in opening round action.
Takeda and Kasahara finished the day off strong in doubles play, as they dominated Cal Poly's Axel Damiens and Joshua Ortilio, 8-3 to advance to the round of 16.
The Cats will be back on the courts tomorrow, starting with doubles play at 9 am.
