TUCSON, Ariz. - Following a historical regular season, four Arizona men's tennis players combined to earn six All-Big 12 honors, highlighted by Jay Friend being named the Big 12 Co-Player of the Year, the conference announced Thursday.
Friend headlined the group after a standout senior campaign, earning Conference Co-Player of the Year honors along with First Team All-Big 12 Singles recognition. It marks the second consecutive season that Arizona has produced the conference's Player of the Year.Â
Joining Friend on the First Team All-Big 12 for Singles play was junior Alexander Rozin and sophomore Filip Gustafsson.Â
In doubles, Friend and Rozin earned First Team All-Big 12 honors, while Gustafsson and Glib Sekachov also secured First Team recognition, bringing Arizona's total to four All-Conference players and six overall honors.
Jay Friend
Friend delivered an elite senior season, posting a 16-3 record while competing exclusively on Court 1. Ranked No. 4 nationally in singles, he earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors twice and put together a 12-match winning streak. In doubles, he teamed with Rozin to go 8-3.
Alexander Rozin
Rozin turned in a breakout junior season, highlighted by key performances throughout the year. The No. 98 ranked singles player earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors and clinched a 4-3 semifinal victory over UCF at the Big 12 Tournament, helping send Arizona to the championship match. He was a consistent force in doubles alongside Friend.
Filip Gustafsson
Gustafsson posted a 10-5 record, primarily on Court 2, and earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors in the final week of the regular season. Ranked No. 74 nationally, he secured multiple wins over ranked opponents and formed a highly effective doubles pairing with Sekachov.
Glib Sekachov
Sekachov teamed with Gustafsson to form one of the nation's top doubles tandems. Ranked No. 20 nationally, the duo went 17-2 and compiled a 12-match winning streak with multiple ranked victories.
Arizona completed one of the most successful regular seasons in program history, finishing 21-4 overall and winning 15 consecutive matches to close the regular season. The Wildcats went a perfect 8-0 in Big 12 play to claim the regular season title outright.
Arizona earned the No. 8 national seed in the 2026 NCAA Tournament and will host the regional round this weekend. The Wildcats open play against NAU on Friday at 1 p.m. (MST) at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. With a win, Arizona will face the winner of Clemson and Ole Miss on Saturday at 1 p.m. (MST).
