LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Wildcats dominated in singles play Saturday at the Jack Kramer Club Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif., as both Naoki Takeda and Shoki Kasahara went undefeated on the day, while Takeda finds himself in the tournament final after a perfect 4-0 start to the event.
“Today was another impressive day,” said assistant coach Arron Spencer. “We played great doubles this morning but came up short in a high quality match. We have been focusing on not leaving opportunities on the court, and in singles the guys both did a great job of getting leads and keeping them.”
No. 37 Naoki Takeda will advance to the finals tomorrow after his dominating win over Stanford's Maciek Romanowicz, 6-3, 6-2. Takeda is a perfect 4-0 for the tournament.
Kasahara also kept up his strong singles play going, as he defeated Pepperdine's Tom Hill, 6-3, 6-3.
Kasahara and Takeda fought hard in doubles play but were defeated in the quarterfinals by SMU's Samm Butler and Nathaniel Lammons, 8-6.
The Cats will be back on the court to wrap up their final day in Los Angeles, beginning at 9 am.
