LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- After some tough singles competition on Friday, the Arizona duo of senior Inge Hendrikx and junior Samantha Czarniak remain the only Wildcats not in a consolation bracket after advancing to the doubles quarterfinals at the Jack Kramer Invitational Tournament.
In singles competition, No. 43 junior Lauren Marker bested Oregon freshman Daniela Nasser 6-1, 6-4 in the round of 32, before falling to Fresno State sophomore Maiar Ahmed 6-4, 4-6, 7-6. Freshman Camila Wesbrooks and sophomore Devin Chyphya were both eliminated from singles competition after Wesbrooks 3-6, 0-6 loss to Fresno State junior Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai as well as Chyphya's 0-6, 3-6 loss to Washington's Stacey Fung. Freshman Kinga Gartner and senior Shayne Austin both won their consolation singles matches. Gartner bested Fullerton freshman Karla Portalatin 6-2, 7-5 while Austin defeated San Diego freshman Sophia Chow 3-6, 6-3, 10-7.
Hendrikx and Czarniak will be playing in the doubles quarterfinals on Saturday after besting Pepperdine's Matea Cutura and Runglerdkriangkrai by a score of 8-4.
