Albuquerque, N.M. – The University of Arizona Wildcat men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. The Wildcats had a successful weekend, sending their multis to Albuquerque to compete in their first heptathlon and pentathlon of the season. Sophomore transfer Alyssa Thompson had a personal-best score on Friday and junior Harrison Ivie posted a personal-best score on Saturday.
Ivie posted a time of 8.58 in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday morning, good for 841 points. Ivie then competed in the pole vault and grabbed big points (849) with his personal-best clearance of 15-9 (4.80m). Ivie's previous personal-best mark was 14-7.25. In the final event of the competition, the 1,000-meter race, Ivie clocked a time of 2:53.71 and scored 727 points. That time was just off his personal-best time of 2:53.68. Ivie finished with a final tally of 5,514, a personal-best score that currently ranks No. 9 in the country, excluding today's results from around the country.
Senior Jovon Cunningham triple jumped on Saturday as well and had a season-best mark of 51-2.25 (15.60m). That mark is No. 23 in the country, excluding today's results from around the country.
Next weekend, the track and field team will head back to Albuquerque and also send a contingent of distance runners to Seattle for a meet at the University of Washington.
