Gulf Shores, Ala. – Arizona's, Madi Kingdon and Kaitlyn Leary, along with sophomore duo Madison and McKenna Witt both qualified for the AVCA Pairs Championship. The duo's made history Friday as they competed in pool play at the AVCA Collegiate Sand Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. for the first time in program history.
Saturday was the last day of pool play as the two pairs advanced to the 16-team Pairs Championship on Sunday which is a seeded bracket to decide the top pair in the country.
Madison and McKenna Witt placed second in Pool A improving them to the 16 team pairs championships. The Witt twin's defeated UAB's pair of Kiriana Hirini and Bethanie Thomas taking it to three sets, (21-9, 20-22, 15-13). The sophomore duo then went on to get another victory competing against the duo of LSU's Mandi Orellana and Katie Lindelow, (21-11, 21-17). For the first match of the day, Arizona's Witt duo take on Pepperdine's Kellie Woolever and Kelley Larsen at 8 am CT on Sunday.
Madi Kingdon and Kaitlyn Leary won Pool B on Saturday as they got a victory against College of Charleston, but fell short to Tulane. The duo fell to Tulane's Tea Juric and Jackie Wegner, (21-16, 21-16). To secure their No. 1 place in Pool B and their improvement to the pairs championship, Kingdon and Leary picked up a win against College of Charleston's duo of Melissa Morello and Catey Warren, (21-13, 21-12). The senior duo take the sand against FIU's Maryna Samoday and Anja Licka at 8 am CT on Sunday for their first match.
