Seattle, Wash.-

Arizona men and women's track and field team completed the first day of the University of Washington Invitational today in the Dempsey Indoor Facility in Seattle, Washington.

Pau Tonnesen and Harrison Ivie kept busy today by competing in the first part of the men's heptathlon. The heptathlon day one included the events 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put, and the high jump. Tonnesen currently leads the pack  in first place with a score of 3,237. Harrison Ivie is in fifth with a score of 3,007.

“Pau is definitely on track for a very big meet. If he vaults really well I believe he is going to PR and definitely have one of the top marks in the country. I predict he is going to PR in the 1,000-meter because he is in great running shape. Harrison had a really nice first day, considering we had to sit him out last week with a hamstring issue. He is definitely in position to go right at his PR.” Head Coach Harvey had to say after the meet.

Alyssa Thompson is competing in the women's pentathlon today. Day one's events included the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, the long jump, and the 800-meter race. Thompson finished 6th on the day with a score of 3,807.

“Alyssa Thompson was great today”, Coach Harvey said. “Considering her hurdle race and her high jump, the hurdle race was a better race for her time-wise than what she has done all season. But there is a lot more in the tank in that race and in the high jump as well. She has a really big jump in her and it is just a matter of timing. Coach McGee has been working really hard on that. I think we are going to see some big things out of her.”

The Cats will be back in action for day two tomorrow with the first events starting at 10:45 a.m MT.
