2015: Outdoors, Tonnesen competed in three decathlons during the outdoor season … He set a school record for points scored in a decathlon at the NCAA Championships where he tallied 8,247 points, good for a runner-up finish … Took the Pac-12 title in the decathlon with a score of 7,823 … Scored 7,783 points at the Jim Click Shootout and finished in second place overall … He competed in the decathlon for Spain in the European Cup, where he finished in second place overall with a score of 7,841.
2014: Indoors, Tonnesen competed in four heptathlons for the Wildcats and he improved his score each time … His first score of 5,190 was good for third place at the Cherry & Silver Invitational … He then scored 5,328 points at the Mountain T’s Invitational, good for first place overall … Tonnesen finished in second place overall at the MPSF Championships with a mark of 5,589 and good for a trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships … At the NCAA Championships, Tonnesen tallied a personal-best score of 5,726 and took ninth place overall, good for second-team NCAA Indoor All-America honors … Tonnesen redshirted the outdoor season.
BEFORE ARIZONA: Tonnesen attended Mesa Community College for two years and competed as a decathlete … At the 2013 NJCAA Outdoor Championships, Tonnesen earned a first-place finish with 7,102 points … His personal-best mark in the decathlon came at NJCAA Regional Track and Field Championships where he scored 7,303 points and took first place … At the 2013 NJCAA Indoor Championships, Tonnesen also won in the heptathlon and scored 5,331 points … Tonnesen won the 2012 NJCAA Outdoor Championship as well.
