Seattle, Wash.-
The Wildcats continued action down in Seattle, Washington for the University of Washington Invitational today and competed at a high level.
Pau Tonnesen was the highlight today. He broke the Arizona school record for the heptathlon with a score of 5,972, a mark that currently sits in the top three worldwide. The previous record was held by Jake Arnold with a score of 5,909.
“I knew he had the ability for that type of performance.” Head Coach Fred Harvey said, “It is definitely a top-three mark in the world right now, if not the best. It is one of the top collegiate marks and I think there is more to come from him.”
In the shot put the Cats had a great day lead by Aaron Castle and Viktor Gardenkranz. Aaron Castle placed third with a mark of 58 feet and 8 inches (17.88m). Viktor Gardenkranz finished in fifth with a new personal record mark of 55 feet and 7.5 inches (16.95m).
Amarissa Hawker placed third in the women's shot put with a mark of 47 feet and 10 inches (14.58m).
Claire Green finished in 19th in the women's mile race and set a new personal record at 4:48.33.
“I thought this was a really good stepping stone for her with the personal record. She is a young lady that I think can run closer to 4:42 in the mile which would be awesome for her as a sophomore.” Coach Harvey said.
Grayson Fleming came in 15th in the men's weight throw with a mark of 48 feet and 2.75 inches (14.70m).
Gustavs Kehris ran a personal record in the 800-meter dash with a 1:55.69 and a 27th place finish.
The Wildcats will continue their indoor season next weekend by traveling to New York, New York for the New York Armory Collegiate Invitational beginning on Friday, February 6th.
