Drachman Stadium's New Surface Paying Off

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona's very own Roy P. Drachman Stadium finished renovations to its surface last December and the student-athletes competing this outdoor season are beginning to see the results pay off.

So if you are coming out to support in the Jim Click Shootout this weekend, you will see the renovations for yourself.

Roy P. Drachman's previous surface was showing signs of weather-related deterioration, which led Arizona to opt for a full replacement and upgrade to a Beynon Sports surface.

After extensive research, Arizona's track and field program selected Beynon Sports' BSS 2000 polyurethane system, with a fully encapsulated texture.

The track oval was poured in “red” and field event areas in “blue”. Considered the ultimate edge in performance, the Beynon BSS 2000 system is IAAF certified, offers athletes maximum energy return and was engineered to perform as well on race day as well as all the training days in between.

“[The new track] makes for a very forgiving surface in terms of training,” Head Coach Fred Harvey said. “But it's also a very fast and responsive surface for competition . . . already we have seen some of the performances that have come on it this year and they have been top marks in the entire country to this point.”

Beynon completed the renovation work in two stages; finishing the field event areas in 2014 and the track oval in the fall of 2015.

With this exciting and advanced new surface, Arizona looks to continue its solid outdoor season at the Jim Click Shootout this weekend beginning today.
