Track Cats Wrap Up Competition at the 2016 Olympics in Rio

Arizona had four current and former Track Cats represent the Wildcats in Rio for the 2016 Olympics.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil. –  Arizona had four current and former Track Cats represent the Wildcats in Rio for the 2016 Olympics. The list included volunteer assistant coach Bernard Lagat, Edgar Rivera, Sage Watson and Pau Tonnesen.

Bernard Lagat: Lagat represented Team USA at an unprecedented 41 years of age. Running the 5K, he qualified for the final with a fifth-place finish at 13:26.02. He would go on to finish in fifth-place again in the final with a better time of 13:06.78, just three seconds short of the gold medal winner Mohamed Farah.

Edgar Rivera: Representing Mexico, Rivera competed in the high jump where he had a top mark of (2.17m). He did not qualify for the high jump final.

Pau Tonnesen: Tonnesen represented Spain in his Olympic debut and fared quite well as he finished 17th place in the decathlon out of 32 participants. He came close to his personal best in the javelin with a throw of 197 ft. - 4 in. (60.15m). Tonnesen had one of the top-five marks in the pole vault at 17 ft. - 0.75 in. (5.20m). He also had one of his best marks in the discus at 151 ft. - 11 in. (46.31m). In the end Tonnesen finished with a total of 7,982 points.

Sage Watson: Watson represented Canada and qualified for the 400-meter hurdle semifinals right off the bat with the 12th-best mark in the field of 55.93 seconds.

"I feel like I was meant to be here. To live a life-long dream is amazing." Watson said after her debut.

She failed to qualify for the final with the 11th-best time at 55.44 seconds. She would also go on to compete with Team Canada's 4x400-meter relay team, who qualified for the final with the fifth-best time at 3:24.94. In the final, Canada would just miss the podium with a fourth-place finish at 3:26.43.
