Last Meet Recaps
Women's swimming and diving is coming off a sweep of Northern Arizona (178-118), New Mexico State (193-104) and Oregon State (213-77) in the first home meet of the year. The Cats are now 6-2 on the season and 2-2 in Pac-12 competition. The women are also undefeated at home with the sweep.
Arizona won 11 of the 16 events in the meet, sweeping all of the freestyle events. In 13 events, the Cats had at least two swimmers in the top three and went 1-2-3 in six of those. The women also went 1-2-3-4 in the 100 free and 500 free. Sophomore
Sarah Shimomura was the only swimmer to have more than one victory, winning the 200 free and 500 free with ease. Overall, eight different swimmers contributed first-place finishes.
The men's swimming and diving team last competed at the Texas Invitational in December. They notched a total of 67 NCAA cuts overall, earning an 'A' cut in the 200 free relay. Arizona had individual cuts come from 23 different swimmers.
Freshman
Brendan Meyer led the team with five individual NCAA cuts from the 200 free, 500 free, 1,650 free, 100 fly and 200 fly. Sophomore
Chatham Dobbs and junior
Nick Thorne each notched four individual cuts. Dobbs had two relay 'B' cuts and one relay 'A' cut while Thorne tallied one relay 'B' cut. Arizona also had ten swimmers earn three individual cuts each.
Eyeing the Competition
Women
The second-ranked California women's swimming and diving team is 3-1 on the season, beating Oregon State, Washington State and San Jose State, but dropping the meet to Texas. Before topping San Jose State, the Bears won the Georgia Invitational with a score of 914.
No. 1 Stanford swimming and diving is undefeated this season (3-0), winning dual meets against Oregon State, Washington State and Texas. Most recently, the Cardinal won the Ohio State Invitational as one of ten teams (1,080). Katie Ledecky led the way setting three NCAA records and two American records.
Men
No. 1 California men's swimming and diving has competed in one dual meet this season, beating the University of the Pacific, 172-52. The Bears have competed in invitationals since then, winning the most recent Georgia Invitational with a score 859, headed by Ryan Murphy tallying two wins.
Fourth-ranked Stanford has a record of 1-0 on the season, outscoring the University of the Pacific, 162-82. The Cardinal also competed at the Texas Invitational in December.
History versus California
Last season, the women dropped the meet to California with a score of 114-185 on a rainy day in Berkeley. The last time the Cats hosted the then-No. 1 Bears, Arizona took them to the final relay event to decide the meet, but ultimately fell 143-157.
The men were last outscored, 118.5-164.5. Arizona is looking for redemption as the last time the Cats hosted No. 3 California, they fell 93-205.
History versus Stanford
Last season, the women were out-dueled by Stanford, 114-181. The last time the Cats hosted the No. 3 Cardinal, they dropped the meet, 111-145.
The men also fell to the Cardinal in 2015-16, 118-173. In the last home meet against then-No. 7 Stanford, Arizona was out-scored 101-160.
Arizona in the Rankings
Both the Arizona men and women moved up in the most recent CSCAA Top-25 Rankings. The women are now ranked tenth, moving up from the No. 24th spot. The men are now the No. 11 team, jumping up from No. 24.
The Cats have multiple swimmers in the USA Swimming Top-100 Times this season. The women have 47 swimmers with times in the top 100 of all the conferences' swimmers while the men have 55.
The women have 11 total times in the top 20 of the rankings coming from six swimmers. They are led by sophomore
Katrina Konopka and freshman
Hannah Cox with three each. Konopka is sixth in the 50 free, 12th in the 200 free and 14th in the 100 back. Cox has the seventh-fastest time in the 500 free, 15th in the 200 free and 19th in the 400 IM. Sophomore
Annie Ochitwa has two top-20 times, notching the 16th-fastest in the 100 fly and tying for the 18th-fastest time in the 100 back.
Also coming from six swimmers, the men have totaled eight top-20 times this season. Junior

Chatham Dobbs together contributed half of them. Thorne holds the tenth-fastest time in the 400 IM and is tied for the 14th-fastest in the 200 IM. Dobbs has the eighth-fastest time in the 100 back and is tenth in the 100 fly.
Strength in Numbers
Arizona has sustained a strong relay presence throughout the season, which was no different in the last quad-meet. The Cats won the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay in a commanding fashion. The A team of sophomore

The women have a top-ten time in the country in each relay event. Arizona has the third-fastest time in the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay. At the Texas Invitational, sophomore

Katrina Konopka set a new school record in the 200 medley relay (1:34.63) in a time trial to give them the third-fastest time.
The Cats also hold the fifth-fastest time in the 800 free relay and 400 medley relay. The lowest ranking for the women's relays, which is still a top-ten time, is seventh in the 400 free relay. They have an NCAA 'A' cut in all five events.
The men are also a strong relay force, holding the second-fastest time in the 200 medley relay. They are fourth in the 200 free relay, and ninth in both the 800 free relay and 400 medley. Overall, the men have four top-ten relay times. The Cats also have the 13th-fastest time in the country in the 400 free relay. They have two relay 'A' cuts (200 free relay, 200 medley relay) and three 'B' cuts.
