SEATTLE, Wash. –  Arizona's track and field team wrapped up competition at the University of Washington Invitational today.

"The highlights of today were Aaron (Castle) putting up a season best mark in the shot put today, and Avery (Mickens) competing well in his first ever multi event," head coach
Fred Harvey said.

"I'm very excited for the two of them and am proud of Aaron's consistency," Harvey added. "Consistency is how you score at the National meet. We still have work to do and will compete better as a team in the next two competitions."

After an impressive day one in the heptathlon, Mickens finished strong for a second-place finish with 5,036 total points. Dion Shattuck went from eighth to fourth-place overall in the event with 4,898 total points.

Castle took second overall in the shot put with a mark of 18.73 meters (61' 5.5") for a season best mark, while his teammate
Viktor Gardenkrans finished seventh overall in the event.

"I'm happy to improve on my season best mark," Castle said. "I feel like there is a lot more to come."

Collins Kibet also managed to take fifth in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:51.03.

Arizona will be back in action next weekend for the Armory Track Invitational in New York, New York. Events will begin at 7 am. MST.
